La estrella biva

Alternative Title: El amor furiente

Description

Extremely rare love song that praises the charms of a girl. According to the song's entry in the Maale Adumim Institute's database, the song was found in the Kavala region. Alberto Hemsi in his book Cancionero Sefardi refers to a similar song from the Rhodes region entitled 'La Estrella angelical' whose melody remains unknown, but it is also structured in quatrains with eight-syllable lyrics. The content of the lyrics is similar, but not exactly the same which is often found in local recordings of Sephardic songs. It is likely to be sung to the same or similar melody.

You are a living star, coming down from above, if you've come to take me, In your arms to hold me in your arms In the field there is freshness, like your beautiful form, Ah, what a beautiful creature, you burn me with love.
